The Fabled City Artwork

The Fabled City artwork is a mixed media creation based around a vintage playing card decorated with a Persian/Mughal painting. The card shows an important person and his entourage on horseback travelling through the countryside. I wove a story around this image. It began with another frame – The Emperor’s Progress – and concludes with this one. This part of the story goes like this:

“The emperor’s progress was nearing its end. He had been guided through the forests by a beautiful dragonfly whose iridescent body had thrown flashes of light as it glistened and gleamed in the sun like some kind of magic lantern. Now, he could just see the domes and towers of The Fabled City on the horizon and would soon be safely inside the walls ready to discover its many wonders.”

I have used beads, pieces of fabric and ribbon along with old greeting cards to create the countryside while the Fabled City is also cut from greeting cards. I used iridescent beads for the dragonfly. I hope you enjoy the sense of romance and wonder that my artwork conveys.

The black shadow box frame is 24.5 cm square and can be hung on the wall or displayed on a shelf. UK postage is included in the price.
