Beaded Art

My Beaded Art mixed media shadow box frames are unique and affordable. The collection features beaded dragonflies and other insects and creatures plus themes of folklore and mythology.

My art is created predominantly from upcycled materials including pre-loved jewellery, fabric scraps, old greeting cards and more. I find this in charity shops but am fortunate to have received many items from friends. A particular bead or piece will often suggest the kind of insect that it should be. A black glass chandelier pendant drop had to be a beetle while a teardrop pearl piece immediately suggested a spider.

I set each creature in a box frame along with a variety of other materials to create its environment. Woodland undergrowth for the beetle or a spider’s web suspended from shrubbery. The dragonflies often have a waterside theme but every artwork is unique.

If you take a look in the Beaded Beasties gallery you can see the Winter Emperor and the Pearl Spider box frames. Although I used the same jewellery piece for part of each insect, the results are very different. Where a necklace may produce several similar beads, the insect art created from them will never be identical.

These box frames bring a little piece of nature into your home and are ideal gifts for lovers of insect and animal life. They can also be used to decorate a child’s bedroom, adding colour and fun, but please note that they are NOT toys.
