About Derrick Armitage

Hello and welcome to my world of two halves – Beaded Beasties mixed media box frames and Digital Imaginings cards and prints; all created where I’m based in Kelso in the beautiful Scottish Borders.

In 2017 after a lifetime of working, both overseas and in the UK, the last ten years of which were as a gift retailer, I decided to explore my creative side, first by converting my original photography into Digital Imaginings, mixing vibrant colour, reality and imagination.

I love history and the ancient world and both of these find their way into my work but I live in the real world too and you’ll see plenty of that in my creations.

The Beaded Beasties came along in 2019 when I began wondering what I could make with some old jewellery and a few pieces of wire. The dragonfly used in my logo (after a little digital manipulation) was born. Upcycled materials play a large role in my mixed media frames.

Although dragonflies feature regularly in my work, I also create other insects and some larger creatures such as birds depending on the beads and other materials at my disposal. I have also begun creating work based on mythology and folklore.
